Galaxy star scheme inspiration!

Model painting group posts on Facebook can provide a lot of good inspiration while browsing and posting cat photos, and one of the posts in one of the groups asked where to find a decent painting tutorial for putting a galaxy paint scheme on a model.

One very helpful reply suggested this post from a crafting blog, showing how to paint a galactic-style easter eggs.

It’s very simple, and requires a base coat of black, some purple, maybe some blue, some gold and thinned white paint. Stipple on the colors and spatter the white on by flicking brush bristles (or use a popsicle stick and an airbrush!) et voila! Galaxy paint scheme.

Get all the steps from the link above, or check back in the near future and I’ll be trying this same technique on some of my Harlequins models 🙂

Magnetized Forgefiend/Maulerfiend

Was contacted some weeks ago to magnetize a Games Workshop Forgefiend/Maulerfiend model for the Chaos Space Marines army for Warhammer: 40,000. I’d previously done this exact project for my own Forgefiend, and I have another one of my own I’ll be magnetizing so I can run 2 Forgefiends, 2 Maulerfiends or one of each – and that’s exactly what the client wanted!

So here’s the finished result, after a few hours of work:

Warhammer Fest pictures!

here’s the gallery of images, if you don’t want to read on!

I was happy to attend my first Games Workshop event, the first Warhammer Fest weekend that is still going on as I type. I decided to go the first day, because the second day would be pretty busy with Golden Daemon contestants. I think I was right, because by around 3 PM it was easy to get front-row spots at the various talks and spend several minutes talking to all the Forge World folks, people like Jervis Johnson, White Dwarf and Black Library people and many more.

Big bug painting progress

Finally getting some more paint on my bigger bugs! Shown are 3 Tervigon/Tyrannofexes, a Hive Tyrant, a Flying Hive Tyrant, 3 Biovores and 2 Zoanthropes I made some progress on last night. These were primed zenithally, highlighted with white primer, then the fleshy areas were airbrushed with Minitaire Ancient Bone. Last night while watching 3 episodes of Elementary I mixed some Ghost Tint (5 parts Oil Discharge to 4 parts Green) and brushed it on the hard carapace/blade/claw areas. have to finish off the Tervigons and then I’ll start touching up the spikes on the Tervigons with yellow Ghost Tint or maybe just green (or maybe green for the smaller spikes and yellow for the larger?), then magenta Ghost Tint on the tongues, vents and joints to match the first batch of Termagants I did. That should tidy them up nicely and once they’re mounted on the space ship bases I’m working on (the biggest bases will be custom-made for every model, I think, but I’m not sure yet) I’ll see what I should do about highlighting the carapace and blade bits – I don’t generally go for the cartoony extreme edge-highlighted GW look but it looks pretty good on Tyranids, I think. In addition to these, I have a Mawloc, a couple of Carnifexes, another Hive Tyrant and 12 Warriors to do.
